- John Duncan was born in 1937 in Northumberland, England, UK. He was a producer and director, known for Jazz Ship (1975), Albert and Victoria (1970) and Albert! (1969). He died on February 22, 2016.
- In 1974 he left his job as TV producer and opened a series of antiquarian bookshops, the first of which was in Fossgate, York.
- He co-founded the satirical magazine Private Eye, with Richard Ingrams and Paul Foot.
