Yuki Hara is a multifaceted filmmaker who excels in overseeing the entire creative process - from development and producing to screenwriting, directing, and VFX direction. In 2020, he founded Ghostgate Films, a production company specializing in the horror and thriller genres. Since 2024, he has also been developing genre films with Yami Inc., a subsidiary of the major Japanese television network MBS Group.
For the 2019 television series Scams, Hara served as the development producer, original story writer, and director (Episodes 4 and 5). The series won the prestigious 57th Galaxy Award, widely regarded as Japan's equivalent to the Emmy Awards.
He developed and produced the 2022 feature film Re/Member (distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures), which became a massive box office hit, grossing 1.18 billion yen. It held the No. 1 spot for live-action films at the weekend box office for four consecutive weeks, became the highest-grossing horror film of 2022, and ranked in the top 10 domestic live-action box office hits of the year. For the 2025 sequel, Re/Member: The Last Night, he expanded his role to serve as both development producer and screenwriter.
As a stepping stone for his international expansion, Hara wrote and directed the short film Summer Project. The film has garnered significant international acclaim, earning official selections at prestigious Oscar® and BAFTA-qualifying festivals, including the HollyShorts Film Festival and the Asian American International Film Festival (AAIFF). Most notably, his exceptional work on the film earned him the Best Director Grand Prize at the Flickers' Rhode Island International Film Festival (RIIFF). Building on his proven track record of creating domestic blockbusters, Hara is now fully focused on directing borderless, global projects to make his Hollywood debut.
