Biography

Janet Grab

Mini bio

  • An MPSE Golden Reel-nominated music editor, sound engineer, and classically trained musician, Janet Grab has amassed an impressive list of credits featuring some of the biggest names in film.

She served as supervising music editor and score editor on ‘The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim’ (executive produced by Peter Jackson), and as music editor on the box office hit musical ‘Wonka’ (directed by Paul King) for nearly a year and a half throughout all stages of post-production - which earned her an MPSE Golden Reel nomination for Outstanding Achievement in Music Editing - Feature Motion Picture.

Janet’s work reflects a deep understanding of complex, long-term workflows and a strong instinct for creative collaboration, enabling her to respond with agility to both the artistic vision and technical demands of each production.

Her credits span a distinguished range of genres and musical styles, from drama, including ‘Wuthering Heights’ by Emerald Fennell, scored by Anthony Willis with original songs by Charli XCX, and two ‘Downton Abbey’ films featuring John Lunn’s acclaimed, multi-award-winning score; to comedy, including ‘Office Romance’, directed by Ol Parker and starring Brett Goldstein and Jennifer Lopez; to spy, crime, and mystery thrillers such as Steven Soderbergh’s ‘Black Bag’ and Kenneth Branagh’s ‘Death on the Nile’, with Patrick Doyle’s Ivor Novello-nominated score; to fantasy, including ‘A Boy Called Christmas’, with Dario Marianelli’s award-nominated score; and to animated features such as ‘Ultraman: Rising’ and the ‘Super Giant Robot Brothers’ TV series by Academy Award-winning director Mark Andrews.

Beyond film and television, Janet has developed a notable reputation in music production and spatial audio. Her background includes work at ECM Records as assistant to legendary producer Manfred Eicher and collaborations with award-winning engineers, including Tony Faulkner, Jonathan Allen, Simon Kiln, and Howard Bargroff. Her expertise has led to guest lecturing at the Royal Academy of Music and speaking engagements at international forums such as the International Conference on Spatial Audio. In 2023, Janet served as a juror for Best Sound at the BAFTA Cymru Awards.

A violinist and violist, Janet trained under former Berlin Philharmonic solo violist Wilfried Strehle at the Berlin University of the Arts, and has performed under some of the world’s most renowned conductors in some of the most celebrated concert halls worldwide.

Janet is fluent in English, German, and Italian.
