Biography

Laura Maxwell is an American actress, artist, writer, and filmmaker based in Los Angeles, California. She began her training in New York City as a teenager, studying the Meisner technique under renowned teacher William Esper. After completing the two-year program, Maxwell quickly began booking work in commercials, television pilots, and experimental Off-Broadway productions, including performances at the New York Fringe Festival and as part of Ensemble Studio Theatre's new work labs.

In 2013, her directorial debut, the animated short "First", premiered at Crankyfest, a Canadian film competition, winning "Best Film". Her work as a director and producer has screened at the Newport Beach Film Festival, LA Comedy Festival, Brooklyn Film Festival, The Unmentionables Film Festival and has been featured in publications including Crushfanzine, NME, and Teen Vogue.

Maxwell is the co-creator, writer, and performer of the award-winning comedy Penny and Pru, which premiered on Funny or Die and earned the Audience Award at the LA Comedy Festival. Her recent projects include directing visually striking music videos for indie artists Thrillionaire and El May, as well as the concept-driven music video for Munroe "Fake Out".
