Balahan Gürel is a filmmaker and producer based in Istanbul, born to a family with a background in theatre, jazz, and literature. He graduated with distinction from Toronto Film School’s Writing for Film & TV program. His projects have been selected for platforms and festivals including Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival Script Pool, Istanbul Film Festival’s Meetings on the Bridge, Drama International Short Film Festival, Izmir International Short Film Festival, and m2 Film Lab, where he was mentored by Film Independent Global Media Makers.
He is in post-production for his debut feature film This Is It, The Apocalypse, supported by the Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism, while also producing international co-productions across North America, Europe, and the SWANA region.
