Trea Bailey is a versatile visual development artist and character designer who specializes in fluid 2D animations. Currently serving as a Lead Character Designer at Brazen Animation in Richardson, Texas, Bailey has contributed to high-profile projects such as the hand-drawn animated trailer for Magic: The Gathering's Bloomburrow, where his expertise in character design, animation, and cleanup helped bring the whimsical world to life.
Bailey's creative journey began at Indiana State University, where he earned a degree in English. During his time there, he was involved in worship music and songwriting, but his interest gradually shifted toward visual storytelling. Exposure to ceramics, graphic design, and advanced sculpture laid a foundation for his artistic path, which solidified during a formative period studying animation in Sydney, Australia. Inspired by the works of Disney and Don Bluth, he realized his knack for animation and committed fully to the craft.
Starting with fan art and commissions, Bailey built a portfolio through animated shorts and professional greeting card designs. His growing body of work caught the attention of major studios, leading to collaborations with Warner Bros., Sesame Street, and Netflix. Notably, he contributed to the animation of Space Jam: A New Legacy, showcasing his ability to work on large-scale, collaborative projects.
Bailey later refined his skills in character design and storytelling at Lipscomb University in Nashville, Tennessee. Today, his work-ranging from dynamic animation to expressive static illustrations-is marked by a deep sense of energy and emotional resonance. With a storytelling-first mindset, he continues to create compelling characters and animations that captivate audiences.
