Biography

Kendra Monet is a filmmaker and New York University Tisch School of the Arts graduate, where she studied Film & TV. Her work explores intimate, personal narratives about Black women finding their voices, embracing their imaginations, and discovering who they are through nuances of their experiences.

Her films have screened at numerous festivals, with The Walk Home receiving an Honorable Mention for Best College Short Film at the Denton Black Film Festival. Kendra became the inaugural recipient of NYU’s Hear Us Grant for her independent film, was named a finalist for The Future of Film Is Female, and was selected for the Academy Gold Rising Program by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

Her documentary Pulling the Evidence That Remains is streaming on Apple TV+, accompanied by a mental health discussion featuring actor John Turturro.

Kendra currently works in publicity at Searchlight Pictures, where she has contributed to Academy Award-winning campaigns including Questlove’s Summer of Soul and Jesse Eisenberg’s Academy Award-nominated A Real Pain.

Her latest psychological thriller short, Attached, premiered at the Brooklyn Film Festival and has screened at 25+ film festivals across the United States. The film won the Outstanding Achievement Award for Best Thriller Short at Indie Short Fest, and Kendra was named a Founding Ambassador of the LightReel Alumni Program.

Kendra’s work and filmmaking journey have also been featured and discussed by Amsterdam News, Final Cut Magazine, Gritty Vibes, and Uptown Films Podcast, and she has been mentioned by IndieWire.
