Pamela Conley Ulich is an award-winning filmmaker, attorney, and community leader whose work bridges art, law, and humanity. A former Mayor of Malibu, Pamela's lifelong mission has been to inspire people to be the love the world needs and to learn, pray, and prepare so we can rise stronger together.
Her directorial debut, A Disaster Diary: Learn. Pray. Prepare!, premiered at the Malibu Film Festival and has been celebrated for its raw authenticity. Shot entirely on an iPhone and edited in iMovie, the 27-minute documentary captures the power of community resilience in the wake of devastating California wildfires. The film, unpolished yet profoundly real, reminds audiences that anyone-with courage and heart-can make a film that heals and unites and shows the power of love in action.
Before filmmaking, Pamela built a career protecting creators. She served as Associate General Counsel for the Directors Guild of America and later as Hollywood Counsel and Litigation Supervisor for the Screen Actors Guild, where she championed artists' rights. She also co-wrote a seminal article on runaway production entitled "Motion Picture Production: To Run or Stay Made in the U.S.A." which was published in the Loyola Entertainment Law Review and also in the Congressional record in 2001. Recently, her article "A Soulful Study of the Entertainment Industry Strikes in Five Acts: What's Next? A Labor Movement Reckoning, Reconciliation, Revolution and/or Renaissance?" was published in the University of Denver Sports and Entertainment Law Review in 2024.
Pamela was born in Kansas City and followed her dream to live in California. A graduate of the University of California, San Diego and the University of Maryland School of Law, Pamela also holds a teaching certificate from Harvard's Bok Graduate School of Education. She developed and teaches "Dealmaking in the Entertainment Industry" at USC Gould School of Law, empowering the next generation of storytellers and lawyers to navigate the evolving landscape of Hollywood with integrity and imagination. She also co-founded the Ulich Law Group, PC with her husband David Ulich who has won a social impact Emmy for his work on the documentary "At the Heart of Gold: Inside the USA Gymnastic's Scandal."
Now deeply rooted in her Malibu community, Pamela is a board member for Friends of Malibu Urgent Care and a passionate advocate for local arts, environmental protection, and public safety. She is a member of the Community Emergency Response Team also serves on the Malibu Arts Commission. Whether through her law, films, or community work, her message remains constant: we grow stronger together when we lead with faith, love, and purpose.
