Biography

Steve Mize

Mini bio

  • Steve Mize is a multi award winning Actor and writer based in Los Angeles. You have seen Steve on television on Grey's Anatomy, Station 19, CSI: Vegas, Days of Our Lives, in DJ Nash's pilot, People Are Talking for NBC, Bones, Ironside, Lie To Me and the Series Finale of ER.

In 2023, for his lead role in the indie hit, PLEA, Steve received two BEST ACTOR wins, at First Glance FF in Philadelphia and Treasure Coast Intl FF in Port St Lucia, Florida. He also received multiple nominations, Including the Las Vegas Intl FF. This deeply emotional role is a departure from his usual sarcastic detectives or fun-loving days. In preparation for the role, Mize gained 30 pounds, grew a scraggly beard, and allowed himself to tap into his own dark side to create this memorable character. Now, he is excited by the response to his hard work, explaining "I play a conflicted person who felt wronged but also unheard and unseen when he followed all the official channels for help. My job was to dig deep to find love and hope. Hopefully, people respond to the love."

His first Solo Show, Life, Audited premiered in 2013, where he won the Silverman Award for his work in the Hollywood Fringe. Life, Audited then went Off-Broadway in NYC for the United Solo Festival, where he won Best Comedian of the Festival. In 2014, Steve received Best of Fringe at San Francisco Fringe. Life, Audited is published.

The LA Weekly claimed that Life, Audited, "strikes nerves of terror and humor, in that order". The Huffington Post, San Francisco said, "Mize's hilarious monologue with rapid pacing and keen sensitivity puts an all-too-human face on self-delusion". And, one last review: "...many laughs. Mize has a well-honed stand-up comic delivery and comfortably forays into improvisation", from nytheaternow.com.

Steve is also an All-Star storyteller from The Moth, and performs original stories in Los Angeles with the Echo Theater Company, Spark Off Rose, Shine, The Muse Salon, The Trunk Show, The Fanatic Salon and Lauri Fraser's "I Love A Good Story". Several of his stories have appeared on podcasts of these same shows.

In New York City, Steve has worked with the New York Theatre Workshop, Circle in the Square-Downtown, Primary Stages and the John Montgomery Theater Company. Steve, and his plays, can be seen regularly in Los Angeles with Sixty-Six Theater Company.

As a lifetime member of The Actor's Studio, Steve performed in Orphans, Staten Island Ferry, and They Eat Their Young. He has been the lead in over a dozen short films, more than 20 National commercials and is a two-time award winning member of ToastMasters International and a professional speaker. You may see his reels on Youtube or his Facebook Page.

He holds an M.F.A. degree in acting from the inaugural class of the Actor's Studio Program at the New School University. While an undergraduate at Texas A&M University, he toured the American Premier of South Africa's Saturday Night at the Palace, for which he won a Best Actor in the Regional ACTF Festival. He is proud to have studied under teachers like Ellen Burstyn, Estelle Parsons, Arthur Penn, Martin Landau and Austin Pendleton. He was born and raised in Texas.

Quotes

  • I enjoy some parameters, otherwise I'm bound by the limitation of too much freedom.
  • I'll never be a theater star...I can't handle martinis.
