Biography

James Mann

Biography

  • Following his directorial debut Desert Son and some critical recognition (2012 Webby Honoree, 2013 New Director's Showcase - Shoot Magazine) for some heartfelt and meaningful docu-style commercial projects, James' work and life took an unexpected turn.

What started out as an exercise in romantic development cleverly disguised as filmmaking for a "friend's" fledgling food blog, quickly got serious and before long, James was married and creating recipe films and other food content for a variety of bloggers, restaurants, app-based recipe start ups, organic grocery stores and major global corporations - ultimately winning two 2015 Telly Awards for two very different projects with Whole Foods and McDonald's.

In 2016, James began working with the cross platform food and travel network Tastemade. It was here that his love for documentary storytelling, high end visual imagery and food eventfully collided resulting in a storm of branded content including the 2016 Telly and Addy Award winning Grill Iron for Hyundai and the 2017 James Beard Foundation Award Winning Uncharted for LL Bean.

On Broken Bread (2019) James teamed with PBS and culinary legend Roy Choi to create a six episode documentary tv show exploring complex social justice issues and the individuals and organizations who are using food as tool for change.
