Biography

Jonathan Sims is a British writer, voice actor, musician, and game designer, best known as the creator and star of the cosmic horror podcast The Magnus Archives (2016). In 2010, Sims started to perform with the steampunk music cabaret The Mechanisms, playing the role of the amoral mechanized space pirate Jonny d'Ville. In 2012 the band published their first album, Once Upon A Time (In Space). In 2016 he joined Alexander J. Newall's company Rusty Quill, writing The Magnus Archives, in which he also played the protagonist. He continued with both projects at the same time, releasing a number of albums with The Mechanisms until the band's final album Death to the Mechanisms, which was performed live in 2020, and writing 200 episodes of The Magnus Archives over 5 seasons until the show's finale in March 2021. Sims' first novel, Thirteen Storeys, was published in 2022 and since 2024 he's been writing The Archives' sequel The Magnus Protocol (2024). He's married to a fellow podcaster and game designer Sasha Sienna, with whom he runs a tabletop RPG design company, MacGuffin & Company.
