Biography

A. V. T. Shankardass joined show business at an early age, beginning as a performer, then directing for the theatre, plays like 'The Missing Link', 'Artists do not park here' and 'The Cenci' and subsequently directing for film on, 'Praying for Pay', The Commuters (1998) and 'The Stepmother'. Eventually in his capacity as a producer he worked on films like 'Generation 2000', and 'Prison: Does it Serve them Right?'. He joined Victory Productions (U. K.) as Head of Motion Picture and produced The War Zone (2000) and 'A Fortune Teller Told Me'. He also wrote and developed 'Saffron', 'A Drop of Life' and 'Noor'. He negotiated Multi-Picture long-term deals for artists including directors, actors and writers. Later as C.E.O. and Managing Director he was involved with K-19: The Widowmaker (2002), and Femme Fatale (2002) and produced Ball & Chain (2004). He also structured a first look multi-picture financing deal and took on, 'Survivor', 'Dream Team', 'Temujin' and Executive Produced Johnny Was (2006) and A Tryst with Destiny (2005). As a writer he has held a 5-year contract with Tomahawk Entertainment and Warner Bros. He holds an output deal with Lions Gate Films. He is now producing Milestones (2008) which is based around urban jazz in London and is also producing 'Five Past Midnight' for Twentieth Century Fox.

The task of the producer and film-executive is two fold. Firstly to assist artists in actualising their vision, and secondly ensuring that at all times this vision has an established market. One must engage in film production for a specific market, and ensure that the process is as seamless as possible.

This profession requires a continuous ability to seek and absorb knowledge in an ever-altering market. To avoid being marginalized one must remain flexible and be exposed to different methods of finance, production and distribution.

Entertainment is man's fourth necessity. When people are done with food, clothing and shelter, they turn to us to entertain them. It began with dancing around fires and today, beneath all the trivial incidents is a noble profession capable of making valuable social contributions.
