Biography

Son of Rita de Cassia and Manoel de Oliveira Lona, a Portuguese immigrant from Viana de Castelo, Fernando Lona was born in the city of Salvador, state of Bahia, Brazil on March,19th,1937. His family lived in Ubaitaba area, (southern Bahia) not in Salvador, they went to Salvador only for Rita de Cassia to give birth to Fernando Lona, because Ubaitaba didn't have a good maternity hospital. Fernando Lona was raised in Ubaitaba area. Later, he went to Salvador in order to follow his "singing poet" dream. Once there, he met Caetano Veloso, Tom Ze, Capinam and really entered the music universe. He went to Sao Paulo where he won on June, 1966 the first place in the Festival de Musica Popular da TV Excelsior (Excelsior TV Popular Music Festival) with his song "Porta Estandarte" together with Geraldo Vandre. Fernando Lona had only one record released: "Cidadao do Mundo" (Citizen of the World) in 1977, the same year of his death.
