IMDbProStarmeterSee rank
The sports-loving Delling began writing for the "Schleswig-Holsteinische Landeszeitung" in Rendsburg when he was still a schoolboy at the age of 17. After graduating from high school, Delling studied economics at the university and at the World Economic Institute in Kiel, where he graduated with a diploma in 1986. During his studies, Delling also worked as a freelancer for NDR in Kiel from 1980 onwards, for whose radio editorial department he moderated sports programs and for whose TV show "Schleswig Holstein Magazin" he contributed articles on sports and business.

Delling did another freelance job for the "Deutsche Athletics Magazine" in 1981/82. Even before completing his studies, Delling received a permanent position at NDR in 1984. From 1987 to 1991, Delling was employed at Südwestfunk in Baden-Baden, where he also appeared increasingly on television. After returning to NDR, Delling worked for its television in the sports program area in Hamburg from 1991 to 1999. In this role, he became known to a larger television audience during the 1990s through his reporting on the Olympic Games from Barcelona to Sydney to Salt Lake City.

However, Delling made a breakthrough as a popular sports presenter with his unique accompaniment and commentary on the European and World Football Championships, which he led to a highlight of German television entertainment from 1998 onwards in ironic to sarcastic interactions with Günter Netzer. Delling was also able to demonstrate this flair for entertainment in 1993 as host of the NDR talk show. From 1994 to 1996 he also performed the same role for the ARD "Sports Gala". In 1996 he hosted the talk show "Mensch! People!".

In 1999, Delling terminated his permanent employment relationship with NDR in order to remain involved in public sports reporting as an independent entrepreneur. From April 2002, Delling also took over the moderation of the magazine "ZAPP" on NDR. In March 2003, Delling was appointed head of the sports program department at NDR in Hamburg. In addition to other awards, Delling and Günter Netzer received the "Golden Lion" for the best sports presenter in 1998 and the Adolf Grimme Prize in spring 2000. Delling has been working on the new ARD "Sportschau" since August 1, 2003, which saw the Bundesliga return to "das Erste" after a 14-year absence.

The new edition of the legendary broadcast format, which contributed to German television and Bundesliga history from 1961 to 1991, was also moderated by Reinhold Beckmann and directed by Steffen Simon. In July 2005, Delling made his debut as a daily topic presenter on ARD, replacing Anne Will on vacation. The NDR sports director was once again seen as a possible successor to Ulrich Wickert, who will end his work for the ARD news magazine in August 2006. In autumn 2005 it was announced that from March 2006 Hagen Boßdorf would be the new sports director of Norddeutscher Rundfunk (NDR), succeeding Delling, who then wanted to concentrate more on his work as a presenter and reporter.

In October 2005 he was the author of the book " Fußball-Deutsch / Deutsch- Fußball ", published by Langenscheidt-Verlag. From October 2007, Gerhard Delling moderated the magazine show "Delling's Week" on WDR television.

After a divorced marriage, Gerhard Delling lives with his partner Isabelle Wagner and is the father of three children.
