Philo Pieterse

Philo Pieterse, at the age of 28, became General Manager of Ster Films, now Ster Kinekor, representing the distribution of films from Paramount and Columbia as well as acquired independent productions for a Ster cinema circuit including independent cinemas in South Africa. After his resignation from Ster, Philo Pieterse established a new independent cinema group, Metro. His company, as a 50% partner, with MGM, Metro Golden Meyer, opened 21 cinemas in under two and a half years. Several years later his company interest was purchased by MGM and later this cinema circuit was taken over by Avi Lerner. Philo then moved into production of films and was acclaimed as a leading producer in the South African market and later recognised by international producers. Philo Pieterse has been awarded numerous awards including 9 nominations in Canada at the 24th Gemini Awards.
