Yiran Chen(II)

Yiran Chen earned her bachelor's degree in Journalism from Sichuan University, a prestigious "Project 985" institution in China, and received her MFA in Cinematography from Loyola Marymount University, ranked among the top five film schools in the United States for film and television production. She studied under legendary Hollywood cinematographer Amy Vincent, ASC, a Sundance Best Cinematography winner. During her time at LMU, she was awarded the Ian Connor Best Cinematography Award by the School of Film and Television.

Her film To Kill That Chicken was selected for the Magnet Section of the Surprise Screening at the FIRST International Film Festival-often referred to as "China's Sundance"-and the QFest LGBTQ program of the St. Louis International Film Festival, an Academy Award-qualifying event. Her film Ornamental Oriental received sponsorship from Cooke Optics and was selected for the Houston Asian American Pacific Islander Film Festival. Her documentary Prison Is Cool was selected by multiple renowned international festivals including the Belgrade International Film Festival, Landshut International Short Film Festival, Myrtle Beach International Film Festival, Doc. London Documentary Film Festival, and New York Super Shorts Film Festival. Her film Art of Wiping was included in the Seattle Film Festival, Belgrade International Film Festival, Vesuvius International Film Awards, and San Francisco Arthouse Festival, among others. Her short film Ash won Best Cinematography awards at festivals such as the Imaginary Mind Film Contest, Redwood Film Festival, Filmshort Creative Award, Cine Fern, and The Film Contest. Her debut short Before 9AM received over ten festival accolades, including from the Hollywood Gold Awards, Milan Gold Awards, Prague Film Festival, Florence Film Awards, and New York Movie Awards.

Before transitioning into cinematography, Chen worked for renowned Chinese film companies such as Enlight Media, collaborating with acclaimed filmmakers including Zhang Yimou, Zhao Xiaoding, Zhang Mo, and Song Haolin. Her personal cinematography studio has partnered with commercial clients such as Beatbot, Lynk & Co, Ping An Real Estate, and Coconut Island Games, with projects receiving brand sponsorships from Cooke Optics, Panavision, Tiffen, LiteGear, and Sony.
