- Accompanied by only a governess, the family moved to Costa Rica in 1927. Son Alfred (1924-2013) was born in Guatemala while Sigismund was there as the manager of a coffee importing firm. He planned to engage in banana and coffee planting on land he owned.
- Listed by the United States Government in 1943 as one of many foreign nationals barred from entering the U.S. during World War II due to his ties to Germany. Ironically, his son married in Southampton, New York.
