Biography

Dan Jansen was born on May 17, 1965 in West Allis, Wisconsin, USA. He is known for A Brother's Promise: The Dan Jansen Story (1996), On Thin Ice (2021) and Soul of a Champion (2006). He has been married to Karen Palacios since December 29, 2000. He was previously married to Robin Wicker.

Inducted into the U.S. Olympic Hall of Fame, 2004.

Has one daughter whom he named after his late sister.

On 18 February 1994, at the Winter Olympics in Lillehammer, Norway, he competed in the 1000-meter speed skating event. After slipping twice, he won the race and his first Olympic gold medal, after failing to win any medals in previous Olympic events. Jansen's winning of the "Gold...at Last" was ranked #15 in TV Guide's list of the "25 Most Awesome Sports Moments (of the last 15 years)". [17 July 2005 issue]

Has two daughters, Justine (born in 1992) & Olivia (born in 1996).
