Biography

Allison Flom is a director, actor and screenwriter. After investigating the role of storytelling in social change at NYU Gallatin, Flom discovered a passion for New York history. She obtained a sightseeing guide license and lead historic walking tours, highlighting marginalized stories in the city's past, while writing and directing for stage and screen. Her work explores identity, justice and empathy, and tends to be women-focused.

Allison Flom is known for Trouble In My Mind (Universal/Republic, 2019) and Freelance (YouTube webseries, 2019). Her film, Ill Feelings (2020), stars Zuzanna Szadkowski and recently premiered at MANIFF. She is writing a true crime feature based on an 1800s murder trial (in development, Alchemation). She co-authored the Amazon bestselling children's book Lulu Is A Rhinoceros (in development, Propagate/Ben Silverman).

Flom's one-act play, What You've Done, follows a lesbian couple turned away from a religious bridal shop. The play earned her a best director nomination in an NYC festival last summer. Her short play Happy Birthday Sharon, and her one-woman show, Everything is White, have both performed in festivals around New York City.

Flom is a founding Board Member of The Sunny Center Foundation, which provides post-exoneration support to individuals recently released from prison after wrongful conviction. Flom also created CrimSim with Fogbreak Justice, an immersive simulation of the criminal justice system between arrest and conviction.

While writing and directing, Flom designs / implements arts-based curricula in educational settings. She writes a weekly history blog, and posts daily haikus on Instagram. Allison does improv in Brooklyn.
