Maya Klemens is a sound artist and storyteller from Cologne, Germany, now based in Berkeley, California.
Maya is interested in the layers that form our identities and how we carry those out into the world. Growing up with parents who chose to live different lifestyles with different values on different continents, she's found that the big riddle to solve in our lifetime is to understand who we are as authentic human beings when life constantly pulls us in seemingly conflicting directions. She wants to tell stories that encourage soul-searching, particularly those that feature hybrid identities which subvert rigid boundaries between art and science, different cultures, sexualities or genders.
Because she trusts her ears first, she works with sound as a gateway to experiencing the world and uses it as her creative vehicle to guide an audience’s emotions through the telling of these stories.
