Biography

After graduating from the University of Washington in 1992 with a BA in creative writing, Casey Chinn enrolled in the University of Washington's Film and Video certificate program. Upon completion of the course he began working on the locally produced television show, Bill Nye the Science Guy, remaining with the show through the taping of its third season in 1995. It was during his stint at Bill Nye, that Casey made his directorial debut, with two fake commercials which aired during the "Plants" episode.

Since that time he has produced, directed, and edited music videos for Seattle Bands, $10,000 Gold Chain and Nevermore, and as well the short films, "Dealer Antes", and "Confidence", for his production company, Oddyssian Encounters.

His latest project is The Red Boot Diaries (2001), a music oriented comedy show which he co-created along with Brett Nemeroff. The pilot episode, titled "The British Dilemma" premiered at the Seattle International Film Festival in 2001.

When not writing and directing, Chinn works as an editor on numerous short films and documentaries.

Though known primarily as an editor, Casey Chinn has had a varied career. He has written and directed numerous music videos and short films, and served as first assistant director and producer on many projects. He has composed music, and made cameo appearances in several films, as well as shot B-roll and done sound design on some of the films he has edited.

Although he has exquisite comic timing, his background as a musician has made him a natural for music themed projects, ranging from music videos to concert and bio documentaries. He has worked with a diverse range of artists, from Tool to Juice Newton and from Scotty Moore and DJ Fontana to Alice in Chains. In 2002 when The Doors of the Twentieth Century played, he edited a video backdrop for some of their songs, as well as the audio/video intro for "Riders on the Storm".

While living in LA, he also had an illustrious career as a commercial production assistant and occasional grip, working for Directors such as Roman Coppola, Richard Kizu-Blair, and Gerald V. Casale. Because of his broad knowledge of film, and many skills, he often found himself helping out various other departments, filing in for Assistant Directors, Dolly Grips and even operating secondary cameras. But he is best known in the commercial industry for developing a more compact and thus safer way of packing Fisher Dollies for transport to set. He was often asked by Key Grips to teach his method to their Best Boys, and as a result, Fisher eventually adopted a variation of his style, itself.
