- Henry Gauthier-Villars was a well-known Parisian literary figure in the years before World War I. A tireless self-promoter, he saw himself as a "brand" in the modern sense and kept a team of ghostwriters to churn out books, reviews and newspaper columns under the Willy pen name. He initially took credit for his wife Colette's early novels.
