On October 31, 2003, Tony Martin Jr was in a violent auto accident on a Southern California freeway, causing severe brain injuries, among other injuries of his extremities. He lay in a coma for weeks. Later, he slowly emerged from the coma, with his family discovering he'd suffered irreversible brain injury, limiting future substantial mental/physical progress. For the next 8 years, Tony Jr required continuous medical care until his death on April 10, 2011.
