Biography

Maria Alzira Seixo was born on April 29, 1941 in Barreiro, Portugal. She died on January 20, 2026 in Lissabon, Portugal.

Member of the Europaea Academy, she had received distinctions such as the Jacinto do Prado Coelho Award, from the Portuguese Center of the International Association of Literary Critics, and decorations such as Lady of the Order of the Academic Palms of France, in 1981, Officer of the Order of the Academic Palms of France, in 1987, and that of Grand Officer of the Order of Infante D. Henrique, in 2007.

Had a literary, essay and academic career linked to the Faculty of Letters of the University of Lisbon.

Completed her degree in Romance Philology at the Faculty of Letters of the University of Lisbon.
