Ian Kerr

Overview

  • Height
    6′ 4″ (1.93 m)

Biography

  • Collaborating with talents including James Gunn, Annie Leibovitz, Gene Stupnitsky, John Rubin and others, Ian's work straddles the gulf between fiction and non-fiction, documentary and scripted drama. His assignments range from meticulously executed national commercials to dynamic, sixteen-camera unscripted projects, month-long arctic and mountaineering expeditions and stylish period dramas earning Emmy and CSC awards for his cinematography.

Whether it's documenting a man's heartbreaking final moments of life in PBS's The Suicide Tourist, capturing wild polar bears using only moonlight for illumination in Apple's Earth at Night or crafting period imagery for Robert Kirkman's Heros & Villains, Ian's work is grounded in the real-world and expressed cinematically.

A former adjunct professor of Advanced Cinematography at UBC and SFU, Ian lectures at film schools and workshops and also contributes to publications including The New York Times and Canadian Cinematographer. Ian also develops custom equipment to create unique visual effects including the award-winning camera accessory MultiTurret.
