- Famous French writer and politician of the French revolution, often sent to prison when a young man by his father, the economist 'Victor Riqueti', Marquis de Mirabeau (1715-1789).
- Children: Victor Gabriel Emmanuel de Riquetti, died 1778, by Émilie. Gabrielle-Sophie de Riquetti, died 1790, by his lover Sophie-Marie-Thérèse-Richard de Ruffey, with whom Mirabeau had eloped to Switzerland.
- Mirabeau was a cousin of the infamous Marquis de Sade. The two had hated each other since childhood; when they were sent to the same prison in 1780, Sade spied Mirabeau from his cell window and they began to verbally harrass one another.
