Mother of actress Jayachitra.
Originally from Kakinada, Andhra Pradesh, India.
Learned classical dance at an early age and gave performances in Young Mens Club in her hometown of Kakinada. Audiences used to call her little Anjali Devi ("chinna Anjali") after the great star Anjali Devi, who also took notice and recommended her to film producers, who then cast her.
She married Mahendra, a veterinary doctor who had earlier worked as a lawyer. They both moved to Chennai for work, which was where their children (including actress Jayachitra) were born.
Her grandson is Amresh Ganesh.
