Oliver "Oli" Quintanilla was raised in Mexico. During his studies at Tecnológico de Monterrey as a Communication and Media Studies major in the nineties, he worked as a stage manager at the university's film studio. In Los Angeles, he studied filmmaking at the American Film Institute (AFI), the Tom Todoroff Studio for acting (Class of 2008), and was mentored under American writer Sydney Alvin "Syd" Field for play writing and screenwriting (Class of 2009). While at AFI, he was a camera assistant in several commercials, music videos and a couple of features. He would later start directing and shooting projects of his own. While working on his project, Little Saints he completed Oaxaca Day of the Dead, a documentary that helped him receive a grant from the All Roads Film Project from National Geographic to finish Little Saints. Since 1998, he has worked as a freelancer for various commercials and music videos, many of his projects being produced in 35mm and 16mm film. TV ads to his credit include JCPenny, Carl's Jr., McDonald's, Burger King, Best Buy, Toyota, and Nissan. His music video clients include Rob Zombie, Nine Inch Nails and El Gran Silencio.
