- Two time Emmy-nominated actress and director Lynn Shelton fell ill and was taken to a Los Angeles, California hospital. During her medical examination it was found that she had been suffering, without diagnosis or any apparent symptoms, from acute myeloid leukemia, a cancer of the blood. She died just a few days later on May 16, 2020 at age 54.

- In 2015, Lynn Shelton met Marc Maron for the first time when she was a guest on his podcast, "WTF with Marc Maron". Over the next five years, they worked together professionally on multiple projects, including Shelton directing two of his comedy specials, multiple episodes of his shows Maron (2013) and GLOW (2017), and the movie Sword of Trust (2019). They also became romantic partners before her death on May 16, 2020.
