Biography

Marieli Froehlich

Mini bio

  • Marieli was born in a bohemian family of well known artists, writers and film directors in Vienna, Austria. She developed a passionate love for film and art in her early childhood, spending long hours in her father's Film-museum( Peter Kubelka) and watching her mother paint (Gertie Froehlich). She lived in Paris, New York and Vienna and is still an enthusiastic traveler all over the world. Needless to say that she speaks German, English, French and Italian fluently. Marieli attended the Lycèe Francais de Vienne and was trained at The Lee Strasberg Theatre & Film Institute. She started to work as an actress with 14 in John Cook's Film "Langsamer Sommer" and starred also in "Kottan ermittelt" from Director Peter Patzak followed by a main part in " Phoenix an der Ecke" directed by Peter Patzak and" Phantomas" by Claude Chabrol. In New York she starred in the independent film "Union Libre" directed by Elisabeth Cannon. In 2000 she started her career as a film director for commercials. Known for her perfectionism and unfailing aspiration for highest quality, her work is both visceral and beautiful. Constantly innovative she gives unfamiliar twists to familiar imagery. Her sumptuous cinematography, distinctive casting and bold art direction set her apart as a sexy, vivid and exciting film maker for commercials, pop videos, shorts and independent art films. Marieli was vice president of the Creative Club Austria CCA and lecturing in Switzerland, France and Austria. Her creative work brought attention from international festivals, they won gold, silver and bronze awards at several Art Directors Clubs, some were short-listed at Cannes, Clio, New York, London, Montreux, Hollywood and won golden, silver and platinum Effies, a national award in Cannes and a Mobius Award. Her latest nominations were for C&A Fashion "Darling Sara" at the New York Advertising Festivals in 2011.
