Biography

Sophie Garel was born on April 22, 1942 in Oran, Oran, France [now Algeria]. She was an actress, known for La vie commence à minuit (1967), Bon Week-end (1995) and Eurovision Song Contest (1956). She died on May 14, 2026 in Saint-Cloud, Hauts-de-Seine, France.

TV and radio host, she had one son with actor Jean Yanne.

In media, she was most well-known for her work on RTL's Les Grosses Têtes.

Sophie Garel represented Luxembourg in the Eurovision Song Contest 1968, finishing in fifth place with the duet Nous vivrons d'amour alongside Chris Baldo.

She began her career in 1960 as a presenter at Télé Oran. In 1962, the exodus of French people from Algeria led her to Marseille where she joined Télé Monte Carlo .

She was a French radio and television personality and singer.
