Biography

She was a solo singer in late 60's Italy, under the name of Melissa, she started in 1967, first big thing in the summer of 1968 when toured Italy with "Un disco per l'estate" TV caravan, ten years later she joined in the Giampero Scalamogna project, Gepy & Gepy, with fellow friend Marcella Petrelli, the band reached #1 peak with the hit "Body to Body". She lived in Ciampino near Rome and she still acting as thespian actress.

Gifted with a pleasant, well-tuned voice and a beautiful presence, she was noticed by some record producers who offered her a recording contract with Decca, who let her debut under the stage name Melissa on Un disco per l'estate 1968 with the song La spiaggia è vuota. She then moved to Parade (thanks to the interest of Carlo Rossi ), with whom she recorded two more 45s, and to Produttori Associati .

For some time she abandoned her singing career to devote herself to acting, with the stage name Melissa Chimenti : one of her best-known films is "Papaya of the Caribbean", directed by Joe D'Amato in 1978 .

Born in Eritrea to an Italian father (of Apulian origins) and an Eritrean mother, the family returned to Italy while still a child and settled in Rome , where Maria Rosa, as a teenager, began frequenting clubs like the Piper Club and the Titan.
