Overview

    1998 · Athens, Greece

Mini bio

  • Alex Charitou is a filmmaker whose creative perspective is shaped by a multicultural and polyglot upbringing. Raised on the island of Paros by an Italian mother and a French Cypriot father, he later moved to Italy to attend high school in Turin. After completing his secondary education, he returned to Greece to dedicate himself to the cinematic arts, eventually earning a BA in Film Production from Middlesex University in 2021. During his studies, Charitou supplemented his formal education with specialized seminars in directing and screenwriting across both Greece and Italy. He gained formative professional experience serving as a trainee on various productions, most notably working alongside Jacqueline Lentzou on the acclaimed film Moon, 66 Questions (2021). This collaboration allowed him to explore innovative methods of narrative structure and visual storytelling. As a director, his early work includes the short films Celestial Bodies (2023) and Nothing to Do (2019), both of which have been showcased at international film festivals. His filmography frequently explores themes of social oppression and the pursuit of free expression. Beyond his directorial efforts, he has built a career as an assistant director within the commercial and film industries, contributing to high-profile international projects such as the Amazon Prime series Malice (2025) and Cherien Dabis's All That's Left of You (2025). He continues to develop new material, including the short film Attractive Forces and his first feature-length screenplay, Asteroids.
