Biography

Suryakant was born in 1925 in Kolhapur. He was an actor and director, known for Irsha (1978), Purana Purush (1978) and Kar Bhala (1956). He died in 1999 in Pune.

Brother of Actor 'Chandrakant Mandhare'.

Full name is 'Suryakant Mandhare' but used only 'Suryakant' for films.

First Marathi actor to receive Dadasaheb Phalke Award.

Passed away in 1999.

Pune Municipal Corporation came up with the idea of building his art gallery focusing his paintings and achievements which was inaugurated in 2011 by Chief Minister 'Prithviraj Chavan'. In 2013 within 2 years the gallery made way for another project and all his relics were kept in storeroom which was done without informing his family. PMC and the Mandhare family accused each other for the mess but after a long struggle the gallery was located to Kolhapur.
