Charlotte Schousboe

Charlotte Schousboe is a Danish-born photographer and author who has been based in France since the 1980s. Her career spans the worlds of press, fashion, television, and documentary, with a consistent focus on human stories and cultural nuance. She arrived in Paris in 1983 for a summer internship in a photography studio and quickly immersed herself in the world of image-making. She began as a photographer's assistant-an experience that shaped her artistic vision and technical approach. By the 1990s, she had established herself as an independent photographer, producing portraits and reportage for both press and television. Her subjects have included iconic figures such as Alain Chamfort, Charles Aznavour, and Jane Birkin, whom she photographed in Timimoun, Algeria. Her work is distinguished by its emotional sensitivity and her enduring commitment to analog photography. Her Hasselblad camera has long been her tool of choice, offering a tactile and respectful approach that digital formats often lack. Today, she works across both analog and digital media, with a growing interest in fashion and beauty photography, often in collaboration with emerging designers. Alongside her editorial commissions, Charlotte develops personal artistic projects that have been exhibited at contemporary art fairs and Parisian galleries. In 2015, she expanded her creative scope by directing a documentary inspired by a post-World War II humanitarian story. Operation Save the Children (2016), which she conceived and wrote, recounts the efforts of the Danish organization Red Barnet to support European children after the war. Broadcast on Canal+/Planète+, the film has been distributed in seven countries. It was nominated at the Annual Aarhus Festival in 2020 and selected as a semi-finalist at the CPH Film Festival in 2019.
