Called "a haunting artist to watch" by Rolling Stone, Alexandra Petkovski is a prolific composer, producer, multi-instrumentalist, artist, and songwriter originally from Toronto, Canada, known for creating emotionally driven, genre-defying music across film, television, animation, and interactive media. Her work spans contemporary polytextural orchestral writing, hybrid-synth and cinematic sound design, trailerization, and vocalise-forward storytelling. At the core of her practice is a deep commitment to narrative-using music as an essential storytelling tool that supports character, tone, and world-building. Alex is a multi-winner at the Hollywood Music in Media Awards (most recently at the 2025 HMMAs for The End of the Run Is the Beginning, directed by Celine Song), a multi-nominee for the Canadian Screen Music Awards and Music+Sound Awards 2025 Winner, a 2025 Guild of Music Supervisors Awards Canada Artist/Songwriter of the Year nominee, and a recipient of multiple World Trailer Awards, SOCAN Emerging Screen Composers Awards, and Game Audio Network Guild Awards. She was selected as a composer for Film Fest Ghent’s World Soundtrack Awards Third Character Project and, in 2025, was selected by Telefilm Canada for the Junior Executive Talent Slate (JETS) at the 2026 Berlinale, an initiative designed to integrate emerging creative voices-including composers-into international co-production and development ecosystems. Her music has been heard across major platforms including Netflix, HBO, Disney+, AMC, Blumhouse Productions, Fortnite, Grey’s Anatomy, SXSW, and TIFF. Alex has collaborated with artists such as Kimbra, Tommee Profitt, and Aimeé Osbourne, and custom-created the song for One Day This Kid, a SXSW-winning short selected by Andrew Scott, executive produced by Dan Levy, directed by Alexander Farah, and shortlisted in the 2026 Oscars short-form race. Upcoming projects include serving as lead composer on a new AMC murder-mystery series starring Brooke Shields, Michael Rymer’s upcoming dystopian sci-fi feature, and Future Chicken, an animated universe led by Catherine Winder (former executive producer of Lucasfilm Animation). She also scored Amazon Studios’ documentary series Rom Con and Kent Donguines’ feature documentary Treasure of the Rice Terraces with Kalaisan Kalaichelvan, premiering at VIFF 2025. Alongside her screen work, Alex’s artist project, FJØRA, has become widely recognized within the film, television, and video game communities. She coined the term "cinematronic" to describe her fusion of electronic and cinematic language-a sound heard in projects such as Welcome to the Blumhouse (as requested by Linda Perry), the Paris Olympics Globo TV campaign, theme song for Arcane video game Deathloop, and international campaigns for Adidas Women and Donna Karan New York. In 2025, she opened for the Black Eyed Peas with the duo Prozzak, performing for a sold-out show of 9000 people. A committed advocate for women, women-identifying, and underrepresented voices in music, Alex serves as a director on the Alliance for Women Film Composers (AWFC) board, where she spearheaded and runs the AWFC TIFF Film Music Mixer, bringing together composers, filmmakers, and industry leaders during the Toronto International Film Festival. She served on the Television Academy Music Peer Circle Group, is a Grammy’s #NEXTGen Ambassador, and is a voting member of the Recording Academy, BAFTA Connect, SCL, GMS, and the World Soundtrack Awards. A Canadian Film Centre Composer Lab alumna (chaired by Lesley Barber) and LA Film Conducting Intensive graduate, Alex was mentored by Siddhartha Khosla (Only Murders in the Building). Alex continues to prioritize leadership, mentorship, and collaboration while telling bold, emotionally resonant stories through music.
