After completing a Cinema Studies Specialist BA at the University of Toronto, Daniel Hill pursued the production of dramatic film. His initial work as producer with The Paulus Film Group created a series of award winning short films which combine film narrative sensibilities with classical music compositions in varied artistic disciplines.

These short films include the violin performances of James Ehnes (The Scarecrow) and Maxim Vengerov (Meditation from Thais), the Indian Tabla drumming of the Toronto Tabla Ensemble (Asahi), the operative rendering of Quartetto Gelato (La Danza), and the spoken word performance of Barry Callaghan (Medusa Among the Moochers ). These performance videos have garnered regular rotation on Bravo! Television and have received 14 Gemini nominations. In 2001, Daniel Hill produced the feature film Cornered, an urban drama with Film Arts Entertainment. Rhinoceros Eyes, a co-production with New York's Madstone Films, had its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival in September 2003 and was acknowledged with the Discovery Award. In the summer of 2007, the comedic feature film Bolly Double, Daniel's third feature was released theatrically. It was acknowledged with the Remy Award in Houston and the Audience Choice Award at the Reel World Film Festival in Toronto.
