- Although born in London he was raised in Luton Bedfordshire, where his first job was with the local newspaper "The Luton News" as a copy-holder.
- Wrote over 40 biographies of the famous including Elvis Presley, Judy Garland, Al Jolson and Frank Sinatra.
- While at the "The Luton News" he was the only newspaper presence at Harold Macmillan's speech in Bedford and was the first to copy take the famous quote "you have never had it so good" which the national newspapers pounced on.
- While Freedland was researching his Gregory Peck biography, he secured the only interview with Harper Lee that the reclusive author of "To Kill a Mocking Bird" was to give to a journalist.
