Katherine Winter is a Canadian-born actor, choreographer, creative producer, and theatre maker based in New York City. Originally from Toronto, she attended Cardinal Carter Academy for the Arts as a Drama Major, where she received the Governor General’s Award, before moving to New York to attend NYU Tisch School of the Arts. She graduated with a BFA (Honors) in Drama from Tisch’s New Studio on Broadway.
Winter began her professional career working across theatre, dance, and performance in New York, Toronto, and regionally. Her early stage work included productions with Berkshire Theatre Group, Woodstock Playhouse, and New Bedford Festival Theatre, where her performance as Lola in Damn Yankees earned her a BroadwayWorld Award for Best Actress in a Musical. Alongside performing, she began developing work as a choreographer and working behind the scenes with organizations including Eclipse Theatre Company, Superior Theatre Festival, and Dance Lab New York.
Her relationship with the work of Bob Fosse and Gwen Verdon became another significant part of her career. Winter was a member of the inaugural company of The Verdon Fosse Legacy® Professional Training Program and its first showcase. She later served as General Manager of The Verdon Fosse Legacy® alongside Nicole Fosse and performed with the Estate, working in both the performance and preservation of the Fosse/Verdon repertoire.
In 2020, Winter joined VOYEUR: The Windows of Toulouse Lautrec, an immersive theatrical production created in response to the shutdown of traditional New York theatre during the pandemic. She performed in the production and served as its Rehearsal Director throughout its extended run, receiving the BroadwayWorld Off-Broadway Award for Best Performance in a Play.
Her work subsequently expanded further into immersive and experiential entertainment, including #TSQproject, Netflix’s New York theatrical launch of Money Heist, and the inaugural company of Jimmy Fallon’s Tonightmares. On screen, she has appeared in projects including Lady in the Lake, Billions, FEUD: Capote vs. The Swans, Russian Doll, Gossip Girl, and The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.
Winter originated the dual roles of Liza Minnelli and Edie Sedgwick in the world-premiere Off-Broadway production of Chasing Andy Warhol. She later appeared in the world premiere of The Leading Lady Club, which played 59E59 Theaters before engagements at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe and New York Fringe, where the production received Best Comedy honors.
Her more recent New York stage work includes revivals of Flora the Red Menace at Court Theatre and Skyscraper: The 1965 Musical Comedy at Urban Stages. In 2025, she played Young Woman in the Off-Broadway revival of Sophie Treadwell’s Machinal at New York City Center, presented at Manhattan Theatre Club’s Stage II.
In addition to her work as a performer, Winter has increasingly focused on developing and producing new theatrical work. She is the Co-Founder and Creative Producer of New York Theatre Company, an artist-led production company creating and producing theatre in New York City.
