Biography

Lorenzo F Gonzalez

Mini bio

  • I started my career in filmmaking when my wife's cinematographer quit, at midnight before a 6am call time, on day 1 of her first project as writer/producer. She woke me up and asked if the camera I used for vacations and family photography could shoot decent video.

After that project met an untimely and unfinished demise (a fun story for another time), I vowed to support her filmmaking bug, and went out into the world of Los Angeles ULB film and TV. After working my way through unpaid PA positions, then up through boom op, sound mixer, grip, swing, and eventually gaffer, I finally bought a proper cinema camera and started positioning myself as a Director of Photography.

In 2022 I got the writing/directing bug myself, and wrote/produced/directed/DP'd and edited my own feature film, "Superpowers Aren't a Thing", as well as an unrelated short film (which I produced/directed/DP'd/edited, but did not write), "The Truth Hurts". Both projects are award winners on the film festival circuit.

Today I find myself with nearly 100 IMDB-credited projects under my belt (and dozens more that won't go to IMDB), a growing list of directing credits, and a van full of camera and G&E gear.

Directing and cinematography are where I find the most fulfillment on set. And I have been blessed to build a crew of talented professionals who bring an incredible work ethic and good vibes to set, rain or shine, heat or cold, chef-catered or cheese pizza. But preferably not cheese pizza more than once per production...
