Biography

Andrew Lowe is an Oscar-nominated Irish film and television producer and the co-founder and Co-CEO of Element Pictures. Alongside his long-time creative partner Ed Guiney, Lowe has helped shape the landscape of modern independent cinema. He is best known for producing critically acclaimed, award-winning international hits such as The Guard, The Lobster, The Favourite, and the multi-Oscar-winning fantasy film Poor Things, which earned him an Academy Award nomination for Best Picture.

Lowe co-founded Element Pictures in 2001. While running the Dublin, London, and Belfast-based company, his primary focus centers on managing production financing, handling business affairs, and overseeing the company’s extensive slate of independent film and television co-productions. Under his guidance, the company has expanded its footprint globally, culminating in a major partnership with the entertainment giant Fremantle in 2022.

His extensive television and film credits encompass highly celebrated projects. Beyond his cinematic achievements with director Yorgos Lanthimos, Lowe served as an executive producer on global television phenomena, including the BAFTA-winning BBC/Hulu adaptations of Sally Rooney’s novels Normal People and Conversations with Friends. His career also spans highly acclaimed titles like The Wind That Shakes the Barley, Room, and The Wonder.

Before establishing himself as a top-tier global producer, Lowe built a strong foundation in the corporate and financial sectors of the entertainment industry. He trained as a chartered accountant and spent several years working as a freelance film production accountant before serving as the Head of Business Affairs for the Irish Film Board from 1999 to 2001. He remains a prominent figure in industry leadership, serving as a board member of Screen Producers Ireland and Vice Chair of the IBEC Audiovisual Federation.
