- He was portrayed by Sam Riley in 24 Hour Party People (2002).
- Smith's dark and occult infused lyrics stemmed not just from his appreciation of horror literature, but from his supposedly real-life supernatural experiences. He claimed to have had psychic premonitions throughout his life, going back to childhood when he suddenly began speaking in tongues. But the most notable example of Smith's supposed foresight came when he had a panic attack on a ride at Disneyland. A fellow patron was later killed on the same ride mere minutes later. He later penned the song Disney's Dream Debased about the incident.
