Ronnie Peterson finished in 2nd place in the first-ever Brazilian Grand Prix, a non-championship Formula 1 race held at the Interlagos circuit, in São Paulo, on March 30, 1972. The event was a test, which joined the official Formula 1 calendar the following year in 1973.

Ronnie Peterson competed in sixteen non-championship Formula 1 races, with three 2nd-place finishes as his best results. He finished 2nd at: the 1971 Jochen Rindt Memorial in Hockenheim, Germany, driving a March-Ford; the 1972 Brazilian Grand Prix at Interlagos, São Paulo, driving a March-Ford; and the 1973 International Trophy at Silverstone, England, driving a Lotus-Ford.
