  • François Cevert was born on February 25, 1944 in Paris, France. He was an actor and writer, known for Formula 1 (1950), One by One (1974) and O Fabuloso Fittipaldi (1973). He died on October 6, 1973 in Watkins Glen, New York, USA.

  • His death at the United States Grand Prix, in Watkins Glen, New York, during practice, prompted Jackie Stewart to pull out of the event out of respect, thus denying the Scot of his 100th Grand Prix start.
  • Won the 1971 United States Grand Prix.
  • Was killed when his Tyrrell-Ford crashed on the esses and hit the steel barriers. The crash was so violent, the car's rear folded on top of the front killing Cevert instantly.
  • Teammate of World Champion driver Jackie Stewart at Tyrrell from 1970 to 1973.
  • Jody Scheckter was the first driver to come upon the scene of Cevert's accident. Ironically, he was named to replace Cevert as Tyrrell's top driver in 1974.
