Biography

Helen Sun is 50% of a queer writing-filmmaking duo with Laura Malatos, who were born 5,000 miles apart in Seattle and literal Moscow, Russia. After braving a picturesque childhood tainted only by fat camp, and a regular childhood marked by family entanglement with the KGB-backed mafia, they fled to USC. There, they explored several high-yield business ventures together before settling on the lowest return on investment - a joint career in Hollywood. In their work, they interrogate the ways ambitious women operate inside and against morally gray institutions, drawn to morbidly comedic characters who are trying to outrun their own origin stories.

Their produced pilot, "DOOMED" (EP’d by Peter Cameron, Wandavision, The Fantastic Four), secured distribution on PBS, Roku, and several obscure local channels in the UK. Their written and produced work has been featured in Rolling Stone magazine, MTV Entertainment Network, Austin FF, Cleveland FF, Seattle IFF, and The Black List x WIF Episodic Lab.
