  • A winner of six Royal Television awards as producer/director for his TV documentaries, a US Cine Golden Eagle and two BAFTA nominations, Sol's love for a good tale has taken him down the dual paths of factual and fiction storytelling. Founder of Independent film company Hurricane Films, he has managed productions from shorts to international feature films with budgets ranging up to $15M. Sol 's early career was as a marine engineer after a short spell at sea he moved into the creative arts working as stills photographer, after a 16mm short course at the National Film School he moved into documentary film as a producer/director. Sol's documentary singles and series have taken him from the deck of the world's largest aircraft carrier shooting out of Pearl Harbour to the deserts of the Middle East. As an independent feature film producer he has produced eight feature films, including three Terence Davies films: Of Time and The City, Sunset Song and A Quiet Passion. All premiered at 'A' list festivals. As producer his independent feature films include A PRAYER BEFORE DAWN, SOMETIMES AWAYS NEVER and THE LAST BUS. Recent work includes exec producing and directing two feature documentaries and acting as second unit director on The Last Bus and directing EPKs for feature films (Dali Land with Sir Ben Kingsley, Sometimes Always Never / Bill Nighy and The Last Bus / Tim Spall). Sol is also a regular visiting lecturer at Salford University MA Documentary, Sheffield Hallam Producers Summer School and Liverpool John Moores Film School. He is a member of Directors UK and BAFTA and sits on the board of The Open Eye Photography Gallery. Sol has a European passport and can work anywhere in the EU.
