- Camila, proudly Mexican, has turned documentary filmmaking and photojournalism into acts of deep listening and conscious observation. Few know that before picking up a camera, Camila also trained in musical theater.
Her experience includes collaborations with platforms such as Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Discovery Channel, Vice, MTV, UNHCR, among others, working primarily in direction department on projects that have made a lasting impact both in Mexico and abroad. Her most notable works include The Three Deaths of Marisela Escobedo (Netflix), awarded Best Documentary at the Ariel Awards, as well as Caravanas and On the Line: Mexico, both nominated for an Emmy in Outstanding Investigative Journalism in Spanish. She also co-directed Alma Bohemia, an intimate portrait of Grammy-winning band La Santa Cecilia. She is a full-time director, having two award winning short films in her List: "Aguasal" & "Women of honey and water".
Camila firmly believes in the individual responsibility to build the collective, and in empathy as the starting point for telling stories with respect, complexity, and depth. Her approach is defined by a humanistic, feminist, and sensitive perspective, seeking to make space for voices that have often been silenced or marginalized.
