Fitch Jean is a Haitian-Canadian filmmaker, writer, and director based in Ottawa, known for his emotionally resonant storytelling and exploration of identity, resilience, and underrepresented voices. Jean's feature film debut, It Comes in Waves (2025), which he directed and edited from a story he created, is a meditation on trauma, migration, and memory told through both English and Kinyarwanda. The film swept the 2025 Reelworld Film Festival with five awards including Best Film, and has garnered critical acclaim for its thematic richness, innovative approach, and lyrical visual style, drawing comparisons to the work of Barry Jenkins and Joshua Marston. His short film work includes More Than Hair (2023), which became a festival favorite; Forgive Me, Father (2020); and As I Lay Still (2024).
