Biography

Hamza Ahmed Yassin was born in Sudan on February 22, 1990, and moved to Britain at the age of eight unable to speak English. Despite being diagnosed with dyslexia, he proved to be a fast learner and won a place at Bangor University where he graduated with a degree in Zoology with Conservation, later being awarded an Honorary Masters. He then studied for a Masters in Biological Photography and Imaging at the University of Nottingham, before embarking on a career as a wildlife cameraman and television presenter.

His first foray into presenting was on BBC's The One Show as one of their new wildlife cameramen. This is where he was seen by DML who immediately signed him having spotted his potential.

Hamza is presenter (under the guise of Ranger Hamza) of the hugely popular CBeebies' live-action show Let's Go For A Walk. Hamza's newest CBeebies' series, Ranger Hamza's Eco Quest, is also set to be a great success. He can also be regularly spotted presenting and sharing his vast knowledge and camera skills on BBC's Countryfile and ITV's This Morning. Hamza is the presenter and cameraman for Channel 4 's documentary 'Scotland: My Life in the Wild' and Scotland: Escape to the Wilderness, in which he guided celebrity companions on journeys through western and eastern Scotland and the Highlands. Hamza has joined the team of wildlife experts on BBC One's Animal Park. It has recently been announced that Hamza will be a contestant on BBC One's Strictly Come Dancing 2022. Hamza is over the moon and can't wait to get his dancing shoes on!

Hamza is relatively new to presenting but not to his career in wildlife, his impressive qualifications are a Masters Degree (MSc.) in Biological Imaging and Photography with Merit in addition to his Bachelor of Science (BSc.) in Zoology with Conservation.

He has a passion for birds, is a skilled ornithologist and bird nest recorder with excellent field craft and habitat knowledge. Hamza is also a published wildlife photographer as well as a wildlife tour guide.

Hamza has assisted wildlife cameraman Jesse Wilkinson on projects including a film insert for Springwatch 2015, filming a Sparrow hawk sequence for Silverbacks 'The Hunt' narrated by Sir David Attenborough and a film sequence about the British obsession with egg collecting!

Hamza lives in a rural part of the west coast of Scotland, with wildlife and nature right on his doorstop as a constant inspiration for his work. In his spare time, Hamza competes in the Highland Games.

In July 2022, Hamza received a Master Honours Degree from Bangor University, which one of his idols, Sir David Attenborough, has also received in the past.

Moved to England aged eight, not knowing any English. He quickly learned English, partly through watching David Attenborough documentaries, but mostly at school, even developing a geordie accent for a while.
