- King Haakon VIII is the son of King Harald V of Norway and Queen Sonja (nee Haraldsen), and the brother of Princess Martha Louise. He trained in the Royal Navy of Norway and received a Bachelor degree in Political Science from the University of California at Berkeley in 1999. He later studied law and social science at Oslo University. Haakon married Mette-Marit Tjessem Hoiby in August, 2001, amid controversy over her history with raves and drugs. She is now known as Queen Mette-Marit of Norway.
